Moldova is a country of monasteries and churches. The small territory of the Republic of Moldova has a high number of Orthodox Christian monastic settlements comparable with Mount Athos in Greece and Bucovina in Romania. Currently, in Moldova, there are 65 monastic places, of which 61 monasteries and four convents, which form a Christian Orthodox framework throughout the country.

The Pearl of Orhei is a title often used to describe Orheiul Vechi, one of the most breathtaking and historically rich destinations in the Republic of Moldova. Nestled along the winding Răut River, this unique cultural and natural complex combines dramatic limestone cliffs, ancient cave monasteries, and picturesque landscapes that attract visitors from around the world.

The area has been inhabited for thousands of years, with traces of Dacian, Geto-Dacian, Tatar, and medieval Moldovan civilizations still visible today. The most iconic feature of Orheiul Vechi is the cave monastery carved into the rock, where monks once lived in solitude and prayer. From the hilltops, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, offering a peaceful escape from modern life.

Beyond its historical significance, Orheiul Vechi is also a symbol of Moldovan identity and tradition. Nearby villages preserve authentic rural life, where guests can experience local cuisine, folk music, and warm hospitality. Seasonal festivals, traditional crafts, and nature trails further enhance the charm of this remarkable place.
