The Carpet Festival Tour

A lot of visitors discovered the traditional carpet beauty at the Bessarabian Carpet Festival held under the title "Poeme țesute cu dor”. The event is organized at the Complex of popular handicrafts "Arta Rustică” in the village Clișova Nouă, district Orhei.

The carpet festival takes place in a rustic ambiance of a pheasant court where the visitors can attend workshops on processing and painting the wool in natural shades. Next to the craftswomen, the participants will learn step-by-step how to weave a traditional carpet.

The most daring visitors can enlist for a few hours at the School of Young Artisans and learn how to hew the wood, blend in vegetal fibers, and crochet traditionally. The festival requires also a sale exhibition where there are Bessarabian carpets with over 70 authentic designs.

The element that is omnipresent in Bassarabian Carpet is the Tree of Life, an ancient Christian symbol that unites the heaven and the earth and signifies youth without old age and life without death. Varvara Buzilă, ethnographer and museum curator, and the most famous preserver of carpet traditions also was present at this event.

Usually at this bee take part over 50 weavers from six districts: Donduşeni, Rîşcani, Teleneşti, Cantemir, Rezina, and Orhei as well as craftsmen, wood carvers, and ceramists from all over the country.

Day 1: Arrival-Chișinău City Tour

Transfer from the airport to the hotel. The tour of Chișinău City: Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Boulevard, the Metropolitan Cathedral "Nativity of the Lord”, the Parliament, the Circus, the Opera, and Ballet National Theatre "Maria Bieșu”, the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova, the Railway Station, the monument "The Train of Pain”, the National Square, the Arch of Triumph, the monument Ștefan cel Mare, the Public Garden, the Classics Alley, etc.

The visit to the underground city winery "Cricova”. In the evening, the dinner in the restaurant "La Taifas”, a totally traditional style including a folk program.

Day 2: City Tour - Participation in Carpet Festival

The visit of touristic objectives: the ruins of the medieval fortress in Orhei, the oriental city ”Sehr al- Cedid”, the Archeological Museum Orheiul Vechi, the rupestral Monastery, and the cave Butuceni. Participation at Carpet Festival.

Day 3: Departure

Transfer to the airport in Chisinau for the trip back home.
